What is a Ghost Walk?

Our Ghost Walks are short walking tours of areas believed to be haunted. During multiple stops you will hear historical facts as well as true ghost stories and area legends. We use various ghost hunting equipment on our walks, much like the equipment you see on "Ghost Hunters" or "Ghost Adventures." Our tours are a unique and unforgettable experience for the whole family! Please note: standing for up to 15 minutes at a single stop is expected; some seating may be available but is extremely limited.

How long do they last?

Our Ghost Walks last approximately one (1) hour and 15 minutes but may run shorter/longer depending on group size.

Are there costumed actors? Will anyone jump out at me?

We do not employ costumed actors and we do not use cheesy haunted house props. However, we cannot control the ghosts, other guests, or non-guests - get a few drinks in the Sea Breeze Fire Department fire fighters and they tend to run up and down Culver in holey sheets!

Do you use ghost hunting equipment during the Ghost Walks?

Weather-permitting, we may demonstrate some of the latest ghost hunting equipment such as dowsing rods, Ovilus 5 ghost box, PX device, K-II EMF meter, EVP listener, thermocouple, FLIR thermal imaging camera, ghost box scanner, and more. We'll explain various phenomena such as EVP's (electronic voice phenomena), EMF's (electromagnetic fields), ITC (instrumental transcommunication), and more for those interested in the science of real paranormal investigation. All equipment is for entertainment purposes only.

Do I get to use the ghost hunting equipment?

We allow guests to observe us using the equipment close-up, as much of the equipment is expensive and requires careful handling.

We may allow responsible adult guests to use some of our ghost hunting equipment on less busy tours. You must be 18 years of age or older and we require a valid driver's license or state-issued ID to be held by a Tour Guide until the item is safely returned. Guests are responsible for any equipment while they are using it or allowing another guest to use it. If any equipment is damaged during use, the responsible guest will be required to pay for 100% of the cost of replacing the item before their photo ID is returned.

Do you cancel because of weather?

We will cancel Ghost Walks if two conditions are met: 1) the Ghost Walk has not yet begun, and 2) it's raining more than a light drizzle and/or there is hail, sleet, icy roads, accumulating or whiteout snow, or active lightning. Please follow our Instagram or Facebook for up-to-date Ghost Walk cancelation information; we try to post cancelations with as much notice as possible but last-minute weather cancelations are always possible. There are no refunds for weather incidents that interrupt an already-in-progress Ghost Walk or event. Indoor events including our Haunted Pub Crawl, Bowl-n-Boos, classes, and other special events only cancel for extreme dangerous weather (icy roads, blizzard, tornado).

Are Ghost Walks appropriate for all ages?

Our Ghost Walks may involve subject matter some parents may find inappropriate for their children, such as accurate descriptions of historical events such as death & murder. We make every effort to present these subjects with sensitivity & in historical context, however, parental discretion is strongly advised. Our 9pm Ghost Walks tend to be the most adult-oriented, with topics that may include death, murder, sex & prostitution. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Children (and children at heart) are always treated to a small treat on our Ghost Walks!

Are the Ghost Walks handicap-accessible?

Our Ghost Walks are easy walking tours which are confined to public sidewalks so wheelchairs, motorized scooters, walkers, canes, and assistance animals (service & emotional support) are welcome. Some walks involve inclines, crossing the street, or going off-sidewalk onto different surfaces, so please contact us with any specific questions and we will be happy to help you select the right tour for your needs. Ghost Walks involve short walks between multiple stops with standing still up to 15 minutes during storytelling, with very limited seating (public benches in some areas). Ghost Walks may take place in dimly lit or unlit areas, so those with a visual impairment may benefit from bringing a flashlight and/or other assistance device. Interpreter services for the deaf & hard-of-hearing available upon request; please place interpreter requests at least 1 week in advance. Additionally, you may request the Tour Guide utilize a headset amplifier. Have a disability not addressed here? Please do not hesitate to contact us, we're happy to find a way accommodate all types of physical, emotional, and psychosocial disabilities.

What should I bring?

Weather-appropriate clothing, comfortable walking shoes, and a camera to capture images of the ghosts that grace our Ghost Walks! Guests are welcome to bring and use their own ghost hunting equipment so long as it doesn't interfere with other guests enjoyment (no bright lights, loud noises, etc.). If it is raining, please consider an umbrella or poncho. We ask that you do not film or video tape during the presentation portion as our stories are copyright protected. Flashlights aren't necessary, as most areas are sufficiently lit but may be helpful for individuals with low light vision issues. Please leave your ghosts at home, we've got plenty! Rochester Candlelight Ghost Walks does not provide parking, however there are many free places to park conveniently within a short walking distance of most of our Ghost Walks. Why can't we go into the cemetery/buildings?

For the safety of everyone on our Ghost Walks, we restrict guests to well-lit paved paths and avoid private property. The experience is just as fun and your chances of spotting a ghost are just as good! Many of the buildings featured are businesses open to the public so guests may go inside before/after if the business permits.

Can I bring my dog?

For Ghost Walks only, we welcome well-behaved dogs to join in on the fun! We ask that dogs be on leashes and their owners keep them under control and towards the back of the tour group. Dogs shouldn't be prone to barking in public or otherwise disrupt tours, and the owner should be mindful of any other guests that are uncomfortable around their dog. Please leave your other types of pets at home! No pets are allowed at our Dinner & Ghost Stories or special events, with the exception of service animals as allowed by law.
